Nahr al Furat/ Euphrates River (Karbala- Iraq)

Furat Canal is an important historical site of Kabala. Furat witnessed continuously 3 days thirst and martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain(a.s) his family members and companions.

The agony of Karbala cannot be completed with out the description of Furat canal. Karbala and Furat cannot be separated When ever the description of Karbala will come Furat canal will be mentioned too. When ever the thirst of children, women men and Hazrat Imam Hussain(a.s will be mentioned furat will described too. Whenever Hazrat Abbas (a.s) martyrdom will be described furat will be foremost decribed.

Furat Canal, also known as Nahar e Furat and Neher Al-qamah is a branch of Furat River (Euphrates) It is separated from Main Furat River near Al-Mussaib City about 35 KM from Karbala.

Hazrat Imam Hussain(a.s)  reached Karbala on 2nd Muharram 61 Hijra. He ordered to camped beside the bank of  Furat Canal but on 3rd muharram The enemy's forces compelled Hazrat Imam Hussain(a.s) to shift his tents from the bank.This was the time when the water of the Furat  was stopped by force for the family and friends of Hazrat Imam Hussain(a.s) Water supply to  Hazrat Imam Hussain(a.s) s tents was  cut off. Not a drop of water was allowed to reached any of the inmates therein by enemies.

On the7th of Muharram water was finished.The unavailability of water, with nothing to feed even the young children in scorching heat of desert bring misery in the camps  Every one suffered  from the killing thirst.

Hazrat Imam Hussain(a.s) and his companions suffered 3 days thirst with wonderful fortitude and patience. they sacrificed their lives.

Aaj tak khud pe ro rahee hai Furat.

Apne aansoo sanjo rahee hai Furat.

Chand Khameiy,Atash -atash kee sadaa

Kitnee be-chain ho rahee hai Furat

Eik bachcha ,Zaban-e Khusk aur teer

Aise Manzar ko dho rahee hai Furat

Kyon na maien badh gayee kanaaron se

Ab pasheman ho rahee hai Furat

Khushk hotee to sabr aa jaata

Pani hon-e pe ro rahee hai Furat
